The Catholic priest-architect who is known for designing several churches here in the Philippines and abroad has passed away.
In the CBCP report, Fr. Alex Bautista of the Diocese of Tarlac died of a so-called neuromuscular ailment at Cardinal Santos Hospital in San Juan City at 2:00 a.m.

In the CBCP report, Fr. Alex Bautista of the Diocese of Tarlac died of a so-called neuromuscular ailment at Cardinal Santos Hospital in San Juan City at 2:00 a.m.
The 50-year-old Father Alex also designed the liturgical furnishings including the sacristy at the mass of Pope Francis at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila in 2015.
He also designed the papal chair used by the Pope.
Some of his other projects include designing the “iconic” churches La Sagradia Familia and Shrine of San Josemaria Escriva in Tarlac.
As a license architect, he is also behind the renovation or restoration of the interior of Tuguegarao cathedral and Our Lady of Peñafrancia Minor Basilica in Naga City.
Manila Cathedral also extended its condolences to those left behind by the priest.
It is also said to have designed the beautiful renovation of the Manila Cathedral sacristy.
He would always say that the sacristy should be clean and dignified because it is the “ante cielo,” the room where you prepare for the heaven that is the Eucharist. Thank you for your legacy to the Mother Church, ”part of the Cathedral statement via FB account.
Due to his expertise in the field of architectural design, he was hired as chairman of the Tarlac diocese Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church and as an architect consultant in the Episcopal Commission on Cultural Heritage of the Catholic Bishops ’Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
Before entering seminary formation in Spain in 1995 he first worked in Hong Kong for three years as an architect.
He graduated in philosophy and theology from the University of Navarre in Pamplona, Spain in 2001.
The following year he was ordained a priest in the Tarlac diocese.
