The PNP Joint Task Force (JTF) Covid Shield will strictly enforce the implementation of quarantine protocols even if Metro Manila and neighboring provinces return to the General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
JTF Covid Shield Commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, that the effective implementation of strict quarantine rules and the increased presence of police at quarantine checkpoints to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
Eleazar said, because people control their exit and monitor if they follow safety and health protocols.
”We in the JTF COVID Shield believe that prevention through strict enforcement if quarantine rules is part of the medical solution against Covid-19. And we can only succeed in this effort if the national government and the LGUs, especially the barangay officials, would effectively work together to ensure that all people should comply with the quarantine rules, ”Eleazar said.
But due to the lack of police force they need the help of barangay officials especially their barangay tanods who will help in implementing the minimum health protocol such as wearing a face mask, make sure there is physical distancing and make sure there is no mass gathering.
Eleazar said it was time for LGUs to have their own ordinances for stricter implementation of quarantine rules.
“The lack of manpower and resources to cover the entire country could be well filled up by the more than 42,000 barangays in the country which have their own respective security forces through the barangay tanod,” Eleazar said. Eleazar stressed that the active participation of barangay officials and LGUs is important especially in containing people’s movements to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
