MANILA – Vice President Leni Robredo believes that the injection of COVID-19 vaccine by President Rodrigo Duterte will help restore Filipinos’ confidence in the vaccine.
“Lalo pa, Ka Ely, kasi ang surveys pinapakita na sobrang popular ni Pangulo, ‘di ba? Sobrang popular ni Pangulo, so makakatulong sana to boost iyong confidence ng ating mga kababayan kung makita siya,” Robredo said in his weekly radio program.
This is the statement of the vice president amid debates on which country will get the first supply of vaccines to come to the Philippines, and public confidence in vaccines is still low.
According to the latest Pulse Asia survey, about 50% of Filipinos are not interested in injecting COVID-19 vaccine.
According to Robredo, in all cases, officials should be really late because the public interest is the first on the consideration list, but the vaccine is a different matter.
That is why if Duterte follows in the footsteps of some state leaders who injected the vaccine, Filipinos’ trust in the vaccine may return.
“Ibang usapan iyong vaccine dahil ang baba nga ng confidence ng tao sa pagpapabakuna. So makakatulong na kung sino iyong tinitingala nila eh makita nila, ipakita sa kanila na walang dapat ipangamba.”
Duterte had earlier said that he was ready to inject the COVID-19 vaccine. If he is asked, he wants to be vaccinated by those made in Russia and China.
But recently he withdrew the statement and said he just wanted to be vaccinated last.
