Reclusion Perpetua is the verdict handed down by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court against the couple Benito and Wilma Tiamzon for the Kidnapping case.
This was confirmed by AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Navy Capt. Jonathan Zata based on the document they obtained from the court.
The couple was sentenced in absentia to 40-year imprisonment and payment of more than P200,000.00 damages to complainant Lt. Abraham Claro Casis.
It will be recalled that the Tiamzon couple was released in 2016 after posting P100,000 peso bail to join the peace talks between the government and the CPP-NPA-NDF.
But they were again arrested after President Duterte dismissed the Peacetalks and revoked the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees or JASIG
Aside from kidnapping, the Tiamzon couple was also charged with multiple murder after their mass grave was discovered in Leyte in the 80s.
The PNP-AFP’s manhunt operations against the Tiamzon couple are currently underway.
The Tiamzon couple was previously detained at the PNP Custodial Center of Kampo Crame.
