Duterte, postponed the opening of classes on Oct. 5 – Briones

The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that they will postpone the scheduled opening of the class on August 24.

According to DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones, based on the memorandum they received from the office of President Rodrigo Duterte, the school opening will be postponed to October 5.

“As per the memorandum of the president, he has given approval to the recommendation of DepEd. Thus, we will now implement such a decision to defer the school opening to October 5 pursuant to Republic Act No. 11480, ”Briones said.

Briones said they will use the time to fix some problems, particularly in logistics due to Metro Manila and some neighboring provinces in the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

The department instructed non-MECQ areas to continue their ongoing orientation, dry run, and delivery of learning resources to be ready for the new entrance date.

Briones, on the other hand, hopes that this will be the last adjustment to be made at the school opening.
