The billionaire Manny Villar’s property company cut down 54 pine trees in Outlook Drive village in Baguio City.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) issued Permit No. SPLTP No. CAR-58-2020 on May 4 for Vista Residences Inc. allowed to cut 53 Benguet pine and a Norfolk pine at Purok 3, Outlook Drive.
This will allow for a building construction project.
According to DENR-CAR records, the company applied for a special private land timber permit in 2018. It obtained an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC), barangay certificate, and mayor’s clearance.
Reduced trees are cut down, and the property owner agrees with Magalong’s request that out of 100 be planted 200 seedlings per felled tree. Meanwhile, Villar’s wife, Senator Cynthia Villar, has demanded that the DENR revoke the ECC provided for the 320-acre Bacoor reclamation project in Cavite.
