Sen. Cynthia Villar clarified that government leaders should work hard to resolve the impact of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) pandemic on the country’s economy as well as the health sector.
Villar did this after being criticized on social media following his contempt for the medical community’s call for the return of the entire Metro Manila under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) as health workers are tired of the ever-increasing number of COVID-19 cases rushed to hospitals.
In his earlier statement, Villar said that Filipinos with COVID-19 should just learn to live because the country can no longer afford to close the economy.
But now, Villar insists that what he is referring to in his statement is not the health workers but those in government just like those who make up the Department of Health and Philippine Insurance Corp.
“There is so much room for improvement in the government’s response to curb the transmission of the disease,” she added.
However, the senator urged the public to strictly follow the health protocols implemented by health experts to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
“We all want to be safe and COVID-free. All of us are doing a difficult balancing act to keep people safe and alive. We all need to keep our jobs, the economy, to do our respective roles to sustain this. All of us have to work harder and better, ”she added.

Nurses need to be professional at their field. Research needs to be conducted to make an action. I’m middle class, pinaghirapan din naman ng parents ko yung food namin. Medical frontliners needs rest too, important people sila ngayong pandemic. pic.twitter.com/Q8H4INrF1P
