Malacañang is now leaving it to the House to decide whether to investigate the alleged anomaly in hosting the Philippines in the recent 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said the congressmen will take care of investigating their colleague former House Speaker and Taguig Congressman Alan Peter Cayetano who is the chairman of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC).
It will be recalled that up to P6.8 billion has been allocated by the government to PHISGOC in addition to private sponsors.
According to Sec. Roque, the Ombudsman has also developed a fact-finding investigation.
“We note that the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) has already created a panel last year to carry out a fact-finding probe in our hosting of the 2019 SEA Games. We welcome this move of the OMB in the same way that we leave the matter to the House of Representatives to conduct an investigation, if need be, on the use of government funds during last year’s SEA Games, ”said Sec. Roque.
Sec. Roque to those who are planning to investigate, please do not destroy the honor of the athletes and organize the SEA Games that gave honor to the country.
“The 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games showcased not only our local athletes at their best but also demonstrated our successful hosting of a world-class sporting event. Let us, therefore, not dishonor the men and women who gave honor and glory to the country by engaging in political innuendos and witch hunts. ”
