Tony Leachon believes his social media posts and comments affected the government’s move, so he was demoted as special adviser of the National Task Force against COVID-19.
In an interview, Leachon admitted that as a private citizen he could not help but comment on the Department of Health’s alleged lack of focus on what should be a priority in the midst of the pandemic.
He said he had just been reminded not to issue independent statements on the situation, but he also said he could not bear not to be transparent or honest in giving statements to the public.
The public health expert is said to be ashamed of NTF chief implementer Carlito Galvez, but his way of disseminating information to the majority does not seem to be in line with the government’s strategy.
The public health expert pointed to Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque and DOH Sec. Francisco Duque who accused Galvez of his activity.
That is why now that the Office of the Ombudsman is investigating the Health department, Leachon believes that the anti-graft body’s move has an indication of the real situation of the government response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
So far, Duque and Roque have not made a statement on their involvement in the resignation of the public health expert.
