Manila, Philippines – The House has approved a third and final reading of the law declaring September 11 as a special non-working holiday in the province of Ilocos Norte in commemoration of the birthday of former President Ferdinand Marcos.
According to the report, House Bill 7137 was approved by a vote of 197 on Yes, 9 No and an abstention which set the said date as “President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Day” in Ilocos Norte.
The bill was filed by Ilocos Norte Representatives Angelo Marcos Barba and Ria Fariñas as well as Probinsyano Ako party-list Representative Rudys Caesar Fariñas.
It was learned that just nine days after it was filed, it was immediately approved before the 103rd birthday of the former President.
It will be recalled that Marcos was born on September 11, 1917 in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte where he was the representative of Ilocos Norte’s second district in the House from 1949 to 1959.
He was first elected senator in the country before being elected as the country’s 10th president in 1965.
