‘Palarong Pambansa’ and other big events this year have been canceled by DepEd


The Department of Education (DepEd) has subsequently canceled the ‘Palarong Pambansa’ and other major events this year as a precautionary measure coronavirus disease (COVID-19)

In a virtual press brieng, DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones this step to prevent the presence of multiple human assemblies, which is possible allow more deadly virus to spread in the country.

‘Yong ating usual activities na napaka-exciting, nakakatuwa, na lahat, buong bansa nakikisali talaga, national events ay pansamantalang kina-cancel natin,” said DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones in a virtual press briefing.


The Palarong Pambansa 2020 is set to take place in the city of Marikina from May 1st up to 9.

But due to coronavirus threat, Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro has canceled the regional sports meet

Meanwhile, other DepEd events such as talent contests, science and job fairs, and campus journalism events have also been canceled.

The department has also announced that it will be set for August 24 opening of the school year 2020-2021.
