The House committee on legislative franchises has consistently abolished the proposal to award ABS-CBN a 25-year franchise. Of the 70 Yes votes, 11 No, 2 inhibitors, and 1 abstain, members and ex-officio members of the committee approved the resolution stating that ABS-CBN should not be given a franchise.

The decision was made after the committee held a 12-day hearing with the House committee on good government and public accountability.

Among the issues raised on ABS-CBN, which were discussed and discussed during recent hearings were the citizenship of their chairman emeritus Gabby Lopez, issuing the Philippine Depositary Receipt to foreigners, political bias, non-payment of company tax and labor practices.

Yesterday at their last hearing, the House committee on legislative franchises formed a Technical Working Group (TWG) which outlined the recommendations that served as the basis for the polls.

According to Deputy Speaker Pablo John Garcia, based on the consensus among committee members it was agreed to abolish the ABS-CBN franchise renewal.
