Malacañang clarified that Filipinos cannot be prevented from returning to the Philippines if they wish.
This was stated by Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque when asked about the possibility of implementing the government’s total travel ban for countries that have already registered a new variant of COVID-19.
Sec. Roque, the human right of Filipinos to return to the country whenever they want and it was first approved or recognized by the Supreme Court.
According to Sec. Roque, what the government will do is implement measures and precautions to protect the majority of Filipinos in COVID-19 without forbidding other people from returning to the country.
He said these measures include the implementation of the 14-day mandatory quarantine for Filipinos returning home despite the existing travel restrictions.
