China has again warned the United States and other countries not to interfere in the South China Sea issue because the alleged dispute over such territory should only be resolved by Beijing and other claimants.
This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian after talks with Philippine Foreign Secretary Tedoro Locsin and the new U.S. President Joe Biden as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Blinken insisted that the United States would never accept China’s alleged claim to the South China Sea and also promised to defend the Philippines in any attack by Beijing.
According to Zhao, China hopes that countries outside the region will respect the steps taken by China and other regional countries to properly discuss maritime disputes, as well as maintain peace in the South China Sea.
Although Washington was not part of the dispute, it still declared its interest to ensure freedom of navigation and overflight in the oceans that the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, Taiwan, and China are vying for.
The U.S., meanwhile, clarified. military without the threat of Chinese military flights in the South China Sea in recent days.
Based on monitoring by Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), and Air Force, they did not see any threat from China.
