Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) hit world-record sprinter and eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt.
According to the health ministry of Jamaica, it is possible that Bolt got COVID-19 a few days after holding a big party for his 34th birthday where the attendees were not wearing face masks.
He said the authorities have also launched contact tracing to determine who Bolt’s associates are.
Bolt is now self-quarantined at his home in the said country.
Earlier, the Olympic sprinter posted a video on social media where he was waiting for his result, before urging all his associates to undergo quarantine.
“I’m just waking up, and like everybody else I checked social media which is saying I am confirmed to have Covid-19,” Bolt said. “I did a test on Saturday to leave because I work. I am trying to be responsible so I am going to stay in and stay here for my friends. ”
“I’m having no symptoms so I am going to quarantine myself and wait on the confirmation, to see what is the protocol and how I should go about quarantining myself,” Bolt added. “Until then, I am saying anyone who has had contact with me should quarantine by themselves just to be safe, and just to take it easy.”
Based on the latest data, Jamaica now has 1,612 confirmed cases of the virus, with 622 active cases and 16 deaths.
