Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director Gerald Bantag has decided to evict the informal settlers inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) for the Correctional Institure for Women (CIW) building.

According to Bantag, the CIW in Mandaluyong is said to be the building of the Department for Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) so they plan to build a CIW building on 28 hectares of land of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

Along with their inspection earlier to see the area, Bantag said that informal settlers are said to be the main problem in the area that may be the source of contraband inside the jail to be built.

Although they have already sent a notice to the informal settlers, the evacuation of them did not continue due to the lockdown caused by Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Although there is no blue print on the CIW facility to be built, Bantag assured that they will continue to plan to relocate the prisoners from Mandaluyong.
